Ekahuil cello

Informatie

Ekahuil, is an alternative cellist, improviser and composer based in the Netherlands with a powerful sound and strong identity that pushes the edges of the cello. His innovative approach to cello sound, composition and performance explores traditional and non-traditional ways of playing the cello, connecting with contemporary society through the different periods of music and giving the versatility of his original cello music. Originally from Mexico City, Ekahuil, fuses ethnic influences from his Mexica-Aztec culture with a wide musical background as an educated cellist in classical, baroque and a pioneer in music genres like cello rock, cello metal, latin-American folk music and sparks of world music. Through fast rhythms, heavy grooves, riffs and the depth of cello melodies in orchestral atmospheres, his music travels between light and darkness. As a street artist he has brought music to the streets along all his career with concerts in rural communities, concerts in the city's subway, state prisons, homeless hostels, market, parks are only some experiences that guided him to create ‘CellOut!’. ‘CellOut!’ is about the composition of original cello music inspired by the connection between communities and public spaces in the Netherlands exploring the intersection between the street, society and music in the Netherlands.
